WHAT IS GUM ARABIC?<\/h2>\n

Also known as\u00a0acacia gum<\/a>, kordofan, meska, char goond is a\u00a0natural gum<\/a>\u00a0made of the hardened\u00a0sap<\/a>\u00a0of various species of the\u00a0acacia<\/a>\u00a0tree.<\/p>\n

Gum arabic is harvested from two types of\u00a0 wild Acacia trees, one is Acacia Senegal tree and other is Acacia Seyal.<\/p>\n

This resin is obtained through special tappings made on the trunk of the tree. The resinous liquid which comes out of the tappings to heal the cuts on the bark, thickens on contact with the air, forming a hard and glassy gum.<\/p>\n

Gum arabic is edible and has\u00a0E number<\/a>\u00a0E414.<\/p>\n

SOURCE OF ARABIC GUM<\/h2>\n

\"\"Gum Arabic is harvested in the gum belt of Africa, this belt starts from Senegal at the west of Africa and ends at Sudan in the east, also known as African sahel.<\/p>\n

From the 1950s to the early 1990s, Sudan accounted for roughly 80% of gum Arabic production, today, that figure is probably under 50%.<\/p>\n

Sudan is still the world’s largest single producer of Arabic Gum.<\/p>\n

GENERAL\u00a0USES<\/h2>\n

Gum arabic is used primarily in the\u00a0food industry<\/a>\u00a0as a\u00a0stabilizer<\/a>. Gum arabic is a key ingredient in traditional\u00a0lithography<\/a>\u00a0and is used in printing, paint production, glue, cosmetics and various industrial applications, including\u00a0viscosity<\/a>\u00a0control in\u00a0inks<\/a>\u00a0and in textile industries, though less expensive materials compete with it for many of these roles.<\/p>\n
